With over 20 years marketing and commercial experience, I bring a breadth of expertise, with both a strategic and tactical lens, from roles held across organisations of all sizes, that include strategic brand management, commercial strategy, digital marketing, traditional marketing, eCommerce and media.
From working on global brands – Gillette, Olay, Clear Blue to smaller lifestyle brands like Sea Change Wine and at consultancies like Brand Learning – what is clear is the challenges faced are often the same and I’ve learnt many different ways to effectively address them.
And this is my main point of difference – ensuring all the marketing activity I undertake for clients is driven by an ROI. I look specifically at what you have in place already, what’s working well and what things we can do to tweak and improve. It’s not always about introducing new tools or activities, it is often just about making your existing tools and campaigns work smarter.
Before my marketing journey started, I began life as an accountant so I know my way around a P&L too!

What's in a name?
The name Balen was created by taking letters from the names of my two sons. It was only after doing this that I discovered that in Latin it is a boy’s name meaning brave… which makes it an even more apt name choice.
The ocean imagery and the use of the colour blue are a nod to growing up in North Devon by the ocean.
